A plea has been filed in Supreme Court seeking a Special Stray Round of counselling to allow the candidates to participate for vacant seats available after the conduct of a stray vacant round of All India Quota.

The petition in which relief was also sought for directing the MCC to provide the exact number of vacant seats after the conduct of stray vacancy round of AIQ was listed on Monday before the vacation bench of Justices MR Shah and Aniruddha Bose.
While the bench took up the matter for hearing, the bench while adjourning the plea for June 8 asked the counsel to serve an advance copy of the petition to ASG Aishwarya Bhati and the Central agency.
"Put up on June 8. Let Adv copy of the petition be served on Ms Bhati ASG who may get instructions in the matter. The petitioner may also serve an advance copy to the Central Agency also," bench said in its order.
The plea was preferred by the doctors who appeared in NEET-PG 2021 and participated in rounds 1 and 2 of All India Quota (AIQ) Counselling and State Quota Counselling which was followed by All India Mop-Up and State Mop-Up Rounds.
"Occupying remaining seats (on the basis of merit) works in the interest of both the college as well as candidates. While the college would refrain in incurring heavy losses in each vacant seat, the candidates will also lose a seat, which they are otherwise deserving of," the plea stated.
It was contended in the plea that in order to avoid wastage of seats, an additional round of counselling was conducted for exams such as INICET and NEET SS.
"That in various examinations including INICET, efforts are made to ensure that there is no wastage of seats. In INICET, spot on option is given to the candidates for the remaining seats. Spot on option was also followed till last year by National Board of Examination for remaining vacant seats in DNB courses," the plea stated.
The petitioners were represented through Dubey Law Chambers and the petition has been filed through AOR Milind Kumar.
