Supreme Court judge Justice M. R. Shah on Thursday expressed displeasure at the practice of the Supreme Court registry of deleting matters posted for any particular day.
Addressing the court-master, Justice Shah commented, "Who is he (the Registrar) to decide? It is none of his business. We will decide! They say, 'Zyada matters hain toh delete kar dete hain'? Yeh nahi chalega! (They say, 'There are excess matters so we will delete it'? That is not how it works!)...Who is he to decide it is an excess matter? I am the master!"
To Senior Advocate Arvind Datar, who was appearing before the bench, also comprising Justice B. V. Nagarathna, Justice Shah remarked, "They say, 'Excess matters are there, so delete it'. And we don't know when it will come!"
To the court-master, Justice Shah said, "Tell him (the Registrar), 'Hum specifically bunching karke rakhte hain so aisa nahi karna chahiye' (Tell him, 'We specifically do the bunching of the matters and post them, so this should not be done')"
The judge then asked for the Registrar to meet the judge at 1:45 PM on Thursday.
"Call him at 1:45. Tell him, 'Sahab bula rahe hain' (Tell him, 'I wish to see him')", Justice Shah told the court-master.
