The Supreme Court has invited applications, seeking conferment of designation of Senior Advocates, from retired Chief Justices/Judges of High Courts and Advocates-on-Record / Advocates. A notice in this regard has been issued today by the Supreme Court.
It may be noted that the applications have to be filed in the prescribed formats in terms of the Supreme Court Guidelines to Regulate Conferment of Designation of Senior Advocates, 2018 framed in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court of India in Ms. Indira Jaising vs. Supreme Court of India through Secretary General & Ors. (2017) 9 sec 766.
The retired Chief Justices/ Judges of High Courts and Advocates-on-Record/Advocates whose earlier applications were not considered favorably are also eligible to apply afresh.
Also, the Supreme Court has clarified that the Retired Chief Justices/Judges of High Courts and Advocates-on-Record/Advocates who have submitted applications prior to the date of publication of the instant Notice, may apply afresh in the prescribed formats.
It may be noted that the Supreme Court has invited applications for the purpose of 'Senior Advocate Designation' after a gap of 4 years (the last application was invited in the year 2018).
NOTE: Applications in the prescribed format i.e. Annexures - 'A' and 'J', addressed to the Hon'ble Chief Justice of India, may be submitted in the Secretariat of the Committee [Room No. 115, B-Block, Additional Building Complex,• Supreme Court of India, New Delhi-110001 (Ph: 011-23116337)] latest by 4.30 p.m. on Monday, 21 st March, 2022.
