A Varanasi Court directed the sealing of a spot in the Gyanvapi Mosque complex after being told that a Shiva Linga was found inside premises by the court-appointed Advocate Commissioner during the survey.
Anjuman Intezamia Masajid Management Committee has moved Supreme Court challenging the survey ordered by a Varanasi court in Gyanvapi Mosque premises on a plea by a few Hindu devotees.

J Chandrachud: We forget the ambit of civil matters. Lets confine it to the parties. Otherwise, there will be 500 on this side and 500 on that side.
Ahmadi: One last request, your lordship have observed "reported to be a shiva linga". There’s no report. It’s only the plaintiff’s say.
Justice Chandrachud: Okay we’ll say ‘indicated in the impugned order’.
Ahmadi: He shouldn’t have used the word sensationalise. Its a personal remark.
J Chandrachud : You both have conducted proceedings with dignity lets leave it at that.
SG : Wazu can be done without disturbing it.
Ahmadi : Please stay the trial court proceedings till Thursday.
SG objects : This is to sensationalize.
J Chandrachud : Mr Ahmadi, we have excluded the three reliefs sought in the application. We have protected the spot where the shiv ling was found. And we have clarified that this will not restrict the rights of Muslims. I think this is a balance.
J Chandrachud : Is Wazu not a religious observance?
Ahmadi : Please don't leave any doubt.
Order : The area where shiv ling is found shall be protected. The above order shall not in any manner restrict or impede the entry of Muslims to mosque for namaz or religious observances.
Ahmadi : And wazu too.
SG : That is my concern as a State.
SG : The area where shiv ling is found, it should be protected, suppose someone goes there and touches with feet, there will be law and order problem.
