The Supreme Court on Friday allowed an application filed by the National Medical Commission to extend the last date of admissions till November 25, 2022, for post-graduate medical courses for the academic year 2022-23 for All India Quota seats as well as Deemed & Central Universities and State Quota Seats.
The extension was sought on the ground that as a result of lockdown and later restrictions during Covid-19, the Counselling for academic year 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 could not meet the time schedule and the commencement of the session was delayed.
A bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli allowed the application observing that the "explanation is bonafide". As per an order passed by the Supreme Court in 2016, no admission can be made in post-graduate medical courses after May 31 of the concerned academic year.
