Supreme Court Constitutes 'Case Categorisation Advisory Committee' Headed By Justice PS Narasimha

The Supreme Court has constituted a committee called the "Case Categorisation Advisory Committee" for re-visiting the existing framework related to the categorisation of judicial matters according to the subject categories. The committee is headed by Justice PS Narasimha.
Senior Advocate Aruneshwar Gupta, Mr K Parameshwar, AOR, Mr Gaurav Agarwal, AOR, and Ms Vanshaja Shukla, AOR – are all members of the committee. The Additional Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mr Sunil Chauhan, will serve as the secretary of the committee.
The broad mandate of the committee is as follows:
1. Examine the existing framework of subject categories and sub-categories;
2. Suggest changes and suggest scheme for categorisation of matters;
3. Identify overlapping subject categories/ sub-categories;
4. Identify and suggest renaming/ merging existing subject categories and/ or sub-categories;
5. Identify those subject categories/ sub-categories which have become redundant;
6. Propose addition of new subject categories/ sub-categories;
7. Suggest mechanism to map existing categories with proposed change in subject category/ sub-category.
The committee shall submit its report in a month.
