Breaking: Supreme Court Advances Summer Vacation From May 10 In View Of COVID Surge

Taking into account the COVID19 second wave, the Supreme Court has advanced the summer break of the Supreme Court from May 10. It will re-open after summer break on June 28.
The Court was otherwise scheduled to close on May 14.
A circular issued by the Court on Saturday said :
"It is hereby circulated for information of all concerned that upon consideration of the suggestions from the Bar due to an alarming surge in Covid-19 infections, and in terms of provisions of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013 in that regard, Hon'ble the Chief Justice of India has been pleased to direct that the Summer Vacation of the Supreme Court Calendar, 2021 be rescheduled to commence on Monday, the 10th May, 2021, and the Hon'ble Court shall reopen after Summer Vacation on Monday, the 28 June, 2021, and further that Saturday, the 13th November, 2021 shall be a working day of the Hon'ble Court".
Last week, CJI NV Ramana had a meeting with the representatives of the Bar Council of India, Supreme Court Bar Association and Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association to discuss the proposal to advance summer break.
The SCBA had requested the Court to prepone the summer break.
