Sudarshan News TV has filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking live telecast of the hearing in the case against its controversial show "Bindas Bol", on which a telecast ban has been imposed by the top court on the prima facie finding that the show vilified Muslims.

The plea states that crores of viewers of Sudarshan News TV want to witness the legal proceedings in the SC and want to hear the legal arguments raised by parties.

The application seeks a live telecast of the proceedings through audio visual broadcasting/telecasting universally by an official agency.

The case is listed tomorrow(September 18) at 12 PM. Incidentally, Justice D Y Chandrachud, who wrote the 2018 judgment approving live streaming of SC proceedings in principle, is heading the bench hearing the case against Sudarshan TV.

Quoting from the 2018 judgment in the Swapnil Tripathi case, the plea states "sunlight is the best disinfectant & that live streaming as an extension of the principle of open courts will ensure that the interface between a court hearing with virtual reality will result in the dissemination of information in the widest possible sense."

Last year, an application was filed seeking live streaming of the hearing in the Ayodhya Case, which was not entertained by the Court.

On September 15, the top court had stopped the telecast of the remaining episodes of the show, after prima facie observing that the 'object, intent and the purpose of the show was to vilify the Muslim community'.

A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud remarked that there was an "insidious attempt to malign a community" and stated that a constitutional court cannot allow the vilifaction of any community in a pluralistic society.

A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Indu Malhotra & KM Joseph was hearing a petition filed against the telecast of the show hosted by the channel's Chief Editor Mr. Suresh Chavhanke on the ground that it was communalizing the entry of Muslims into UPSC.

The channel in its counter-affidavit claimed that it was doing "investigative journalism" into oversees funding for Muslim training centres from sources having links with terror groups.
