Supreme Court is hearing writ petitions filed by Sashi Tharoor MP, journalists Rajdeep Sardesai, Vinod K Jose, Mrinal Pande, Zafar Agha etc against multiple FIRs registered against them over their tweets/reports about a farmer's death during tractor rally.
[Breaking] Supreme Court stays arrest of Shashi Tharoor, Rajdeep Sardesai, Vinod Jose, Mrinal Pande, Zafar Agha, Ananth Nath and Paresh Nath while issuing notice on their petitions challenging multiple FIRs against them.
The SC to consider their petitions after two weeks.
CJI : Anyways you argue on the returnable date. We will stay the arrest till then.
Sr Adv Mukul Rohatgi submits that he is appearing for Vinod Jose Editor of Caravan Maganize
Rohatgi : What is the crime about reporting? Where is the question of religious sentiments?
Rohatgi adds that the report about protester being shot dead was corrected immediately.
SG says he can make a statement.
CJI : Can you make a statement for all states?
(SG is appearing only for Delhi police at present)
Sibal : What is the prejudice caused if the arrest is stayed?
SG requests for posting tomorrow.
CJI : Not tomorrow. We will have it after two weeks. We will stay the arrest.
Sibal : They can come to my home and arrest.
CJI to SG : Mr. Mehta, are you going to arrest these people? The matter is covered as far we are concerned. Are you going to arrest them till we hear you?.
Sibal : But we don't want any coercive steps in the meantime.
CJI : No, no. Nothing will happen in the meantime.

CJI : We are only issuing notice. This seems to be covered by another case.
