The Executive Committee of Supreme Court Bar Association has strongly condemned the letter circulated by one Mr Rashid Khan Pathan, "vilifying" Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud, who is next in line to be the Chief Justice of India.

The said letter alleges that Justice Chandrachud had passed certain orders in a case which in some manner is connected with proceedings before the High Court of Bombay in which his son had appeared. Pathan also alleged that Justice Chandrachud disregarded settled law while dismissing a plea challenging restriction placed upon people who had not availed Covid Vaccine.

The letter comes soon after the Union Law Minister requested the incumbent CJI UU Lalit to name his successor.

Expressing strong objection in this backdrop, the SCBA Committee said that Pathan has a "very low credibility" and is in a habit of making reckless allegations against important Constitutional Functionaries.

"The complaint appears to be prima facie false and is deliberately made at the time when he is being considered for such appointment, especially when the facts narrated in the complaint are eleven months old."

The Committee has thus sought stringent action against this "unscrupulous person" and has said that the complaint should not be given any credence by any authority.
