With the swearing in of four new judges today, the Supreme Court has finally attained the full working strength of 31 judges.

Justices B R Gavai, Aniruddha Bose, A S Bopanna and Surya Kant are the new judges who took the office today.

The apex court has full strength of judges for the first time since 2008 when Parliament had increased the number of judges from 26 to 31.

Ten vacancies of SC judges have been filled up since last October, after CJI Gogoi took charge as the head of the apex court.

On November 2, four judges were appointed as SC judges - Justices Hemant Gupta, M R Shah, R Subhash Reddy and Ajay Rastogi.

Later, the appointments of Justices Dinesh Maheswari and Sanjiv Khanna were made on January 18.
