Come new year, we will see a new composition of SC collegium.

Justice Arun Mishra has now become the part of of 5 member collegium for appointment of judges to Supreme Court, with the retirement of Justice Madan B Lokur yesterday.

The present composition of Collegium, in the order of seniority, is as follows :

  1. CJI Ranjan Gogoi
  2. Justice A K Sikri
  3. Justice S A Bobde
  4. Justice N V Ramana
  5. Justice Arun Mishra

Justice Ramana became the part of the collegium consequent to the retirement of Justice Kurian Joseph on November 30.

After the recent retirements of Justices Joseph and Lokur, the vacancies of SC judges have risen to 5, with the current working strength of 26.

The last decision reportedly taken by the collegium in which Justice Lokur was part of was regarding the elevations of Justices Rajendra Menon and Pradeep Nandrajog to Supreme Court. However, the decision has not been officially publicised yet.

Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice Nandrajog are at present the Chief Justices of Delhi and Rajasthan High Courts respectively.

The new collegium is likely to meet on January 4, as per sources.
