The Supreme Court will hear today the suo motu case taken over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College Hospital.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra will hear the matter.
On the previous hearing date (September 30), the junior doctors' association had told the Court they were performing all essential medical services, including IP and OP duties. Earlier, the Court had directed the protesting doctors to stop the abstention from work.
The Court is also examining the progress of the investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Jaisingh explains that in RG Kar since 2022 no student elections have happened, thus nominated persons from the political background come into picture, promoting favoritism
Jaisingh: 3 were hospitalized, rest continue with the hunger strike. We are all interested that such a strike be discontinued because we are worried about their health
Jaisingh: there are oustanding issues, doctors have gone back to work, only few are on hunger strike- my submission is towards that end

CJI adds that the affidavit shall also mention the steps taken to ensure that such civic volunteers are not posted in hospitals , police stations, investigation of crime
