The Supreme Court will hear today( July 8) petitions seeking to cancel the NEET-UG 2024 exam over alleged malpractices & paper leak.
A 3-judge compising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will hear the petitions after 10.30 AM.
The Central Government and the National Testing Agency have filed affidavits before the Court opposing the demand to cancel the exam. They have told the Court that the instances of alleged malpractices are isolated and do not warrant the scrapping of the entire exam jeopardising the future of lakhs of honest students.
The petitioners have sought a retest contending that the paper leak was widespread affecting the sanctity of the exam.

CJI: Mr Solicitor, we have not put the red flags in our order, but perhaps you can identify...
CJI: All counsels for petitioners who are desirous of pressing for re-test shall file a common set of submissions not exceeding 10 pages before Thursday
CJI: Request has been made list the matters for further hearing on Thursday. Report of the IO (CBI) be placed on record in the meantime
CJI: Fourthly, court is concerned about ensuring the sanctity of the NEET test, so that such instances are not repeated. It would be necessary for govt to consider setting up a multi-disciplinary team of renowned experts.
CJI: If a committee has already been setup, full details should be made available to the court. The court may then consider whether committee should be allowed to proceed or composition should be modified
CJI: If an exercise is to be conducted by NTA and Union govt, a policy decision will have to be taken by govt on the status of the counselling
CJI: IO shall also submit status report on these aspects.
Third aspect on which disclosure is required is - whether it would be feasible using data analytics to identify suspect cases. Authorities shall identify before the court the modalities
CJI: the second aspect NTA must make disclosure on...steps taken so far for identification of beneficiaries
CJI: (1) the steps which were taken by NTA to identify centres/cities where leak took plae (2) modalities followed for identifying (3) number of students who have so far been identified to be beneficiaries
CJI: when the leak was first noticed*. The IO shall place before this court material which has been gathered which would have bearing on when the leak is alleged to have first taken place and the modality...
CJI: On the above aspect, we are also of the view that since investigation has been entrusted to CBI, a status report must be filed by IO indicating the status of investigation upto date and material which has come to light
