The Supreme Court will hear today petitions seeking to cancel the NEET-UG 2024 test held on May 5 over alleged paper leak and malpractices..
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will hear the matter post 10.30 AM. The NEET matters are listed as items 5 to 9.
The Central Government and the National Testing Agency have opposed the demand for re-test by stating that the malpractices are localised and have not affected the sanctity of the entire exam. The Centre cited a data analytics report prepared by IIT Madras to argue that there was no systemic failure as the report did not indicate any "mass malpractice".
During the hearing held on July 8, the bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud sought the responses of the Union/NTA on the extent of the paper leak and possible segregation of the wrongdoers from others. The Court said that if the sanctity of the entire exam has been affected and it was impossible to separate the beneficiaries of fraud from the honest candidates, then a re-test may be necessary. The Court also said that the re-test would be the last option, considering the impact on nearly 24 lakh students.

#BREAKING #SupremeCourt directs the NTA to publish the results of NEET-UG 24 exam on their website city-wise and centre-wise masking the identity of the candidates.
CJI adds in the order : The results should be declared separately city and centre- wise. Results will be uploaded by 5PM tomorrow.
SG : Centre-wise be deferred.
CJI : No, we have to finalise by Monday.
CJI : We direct the NTA to publish the marks obtained by students in the NEET-UG 24 exam while ensuring that the identity of the students is masked...
SG objects to Centre being published..
CJI : What is happening is..the fact that there is a leak at Patna and Hazaribag is admitted..the question papers had been disseminated. We want to ensure whether this was confined to those centres or widespread. Students are at a handicap because they don't know results. We want the students identity to be masked but let us see centre wise what was the mark pattern
CJI dictating order : The petitioners have submitted that it would be appropriate if the results of the NEET-UG 24 exam is published on the website so as to bring about some transparency in the centre-wise...
SG : Centre we need to mask...
Hooda : Let them declare the results.
SG : Entire results are not published. It is the personal property of the students. No exam does it.
CJI : Why can't you have dummy roll numbers in a sequence centre-wise?
SG : Identity of the student..
CJI : We will continue on Monday at 10.30 AM, so that we can conclude by noon. We would like to have a copy of the Bihar police report.
Hooda : If counselling can be stayed...
SG : Counselling will take two three months. It will start on July 24 or so.
CJI : We will hear on Monday itself.
SG : Hazaribagh or Patna does not find place there, possibly very few.
CJI : Admittedly, there is a breach in Hazaribagh and Patna. We want to know how many students qualify?
NTA : 80
SG : They burnt the question papers. A part of was that recovered.
CJI : How many centres in Hazaribagh?
SG : 5. Leak is at one centre, Oasis school
CJI : Total how many students there?
NTA : 2736.
CJI : How many of them will fall in the admission qualification?
Sanjay Hegde says as per Patna FIR, the leak happened on May 4.
CJI : Do we have case diary of Patna Police?
CJI : Primary breach happens in Hazaribagh. Solving happened in Hazaribagh and sent to Patna. All happened in 45 minutes?
