The newly set up constitution bench will not hear the Ayodhya case on 29th January, 2019, due to non availability of Justice SA Bobde.

On Friday, the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had reconstituted the constitutional bench to hear Ayodhya case by replacing Justices UU Lalit and NV Ramana with Justices Ashok Bhushan and S. Abdul Nazeer.

On 10th January, the court could not take up the matter as Justice Uday Umesh Lalit recused from hearing the matter, following a submission by Rajeev Dhawan, Senior Advocate appearing for Sunni Waqf Board that the Judge had appeared for former UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh in a contempt matter related to Babri Masjid case. The case was then adjourned to 29th January.

Newly constituted bench CJI Ranjan Gogoi, Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S. Abdul Nazeer was supposed to start hearing the matter on 29th January 2019.

New date of hearing has not yet been notified.
