Mentioning- SC Agrees To Hear Live-Streaming Of Court Proceedings, Jallikattu Matters

Chief Justice S. A. Bobde on Tuesday agreed to "take up" the matter of implementation of the 2018 Supreme Court judgment on the live streaming of proceedings.

Senior Advocate Indira Jaising, one of the petitioners-in-person in the case, mentioned her application for the judgment to be effectuated, stressing that the said decision even specifies a schedule for the modalities for live streaming to be worked out.

"We will take it up", assured the CJ.

Further, With just a day left for the commencement of the Jallikattu event in Tamil Nadu, the apex court is set to hear on Wednesday a petition against the Madras High Court order allowing the sport of Jallikattu to be held in particular regions under the supervision of monitoring committees.

For the safe and smooth conduct of jallikattu, a Division Bench of the Madras High Court at Madurai on Monday constituted the organising committee to monitor and supervise the jallikattu events. The court also appointed advisory committees consisting of local residents to assist the organising committee in the conduct of Jallikattu.

Besides, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta mentioned Maharashtra government's plea for lifting of stay on the construction of the Shivaji Memorial Statue off the Mumbai cost, which the CJ agreed to list in 2 weeks.

In January, 2019, a bench of the Supreme Court, consisting of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul had ordered construction to be halted and issued notice to the Maharashtra government and the Centre while hearing a SLP against the Bombay High Court's refusal to stay the construction.

The SLP was filed by the NGO, Conservation Action Trust, and activist Debi Goenka, alleged destruction of the marine ecosystem, affecting the livelihood of the fishing community.
