LLB -Examination Mandatory For Final Year And Intermediate Students, Universities Can Decide The Mode Of Examination: BCI

The Bar Council of India has on Thursday notified its decision that an end-term examination is mandatory to be conducted by all Law Schools or Universities, and the University and Centers of Legal Education are free to determine the mode of examination.

The decision has come after BCI resolved to accept the report of the High Level Committee, appointed by it to consider the issue of Examination for LLB students in details and to submit its report

The High Level Committee, headed by Justice Govind Mathur, Former Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, has also resolved that each University or Centers of Legal Education will conduct examination for intermediate and final year students, as per their own dispensation, depending upon the availability of resources and the impact of COVID 19 in that region.

Further, recommendations have been made by the Committee to Universities to ensure that sufficient time gap exists between regular and backlog examinations to avoid inconvenience to the students.

The Bar Council of India had constituted a High Level Committee of Expert, after receiving thousands of letters from students and Colleges on point of examinations and promotions of LL.B. Students. The Committee was appointed consider the issue in details and to submit its report, so that the Council could take a final decision in the matter and could place its views before Delhi High Court and/or other Courts as and when necessary.

After consideration and deliberation of the report submitted on 08.06.2021 , Bar Council of India resolved to accept the report of the Committee in toto.
