A Supreme Court Bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar & Sanjiv Khanna is hearing a plea seeking the extension of deadlines for college admissions which have taken place due to a delay in compartment exams & the declared results thereto
SC Tells #CBSE & #UGC to take joint instructions.
Matter will now be taken up on September 24.
Adv. Singhvi: have lists of colleges with the cut-off dates. My colleague Advocate Tanwi have prepared the list.
Justice Khanwilkar: Will not pass separate directions to colleges. Let them come back with instructions.
Justice Khanwilkar: This is not a normal time. These are only 2 lac students, they can be accommodated. The CBSE has to work in tandem with UGC and vice versa.
Justice Khanwilkar: Both of you coordinate in this way that you have a cut-off date for admissions in terms of the declaration of the result by CBSE. Take a final decision by Thursday.
Counsel for CBSE: It will take 3-4 weeks to declare results. Even regular students waiting for admissions.
Justice Khanwilkar: This is not a normal time. You have to make changes to accommodate students.
Justice khanwilkar: When is your cut-off date?
Counsel for UGC: Our cut-off date will be by end of september. Will take instructions.
Justice Khanwilkar: Please take instructions. Then We will direct the CBSE to ensure that the results be declared before the cut-off date.
Justice Khanwilkar to UGCs lawyer: Please take this point, because of peculiar position, any provision can be made for these students?
Tankha: The UGC should accomadate these students in the revised list.
Tankha: Since 2 lac students appearing in #compartmentexams, they should get benefit of the admission process, otherwise whats the point of taking these examinations.
Justice Khanwilkar: So you want them to declare results early?
Justice Khanna: You had said that earlier that the admission process has closed, thats not correct.
