Judicial works were disrupted in Jharkhand on Monday as lawyers across the state abstained from attending courts to register their protest against the alleged attack on the president of District Bar Association, Daltonganj district by a senior judge of the local court.

Registrar General of Jharkhand High Court Ambuj Nath stated, "The functioning of courts was affected as the lawyers stayed away from work. We have asked registrar (establishment) of High Court to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit a report".

Notably, following the incident the Jharkhand State Bar Council (JSBC) had on Monday called an emergency meeting and condemned the attack in premises of the civil court.

It passed a resolution stating, "It has been unanimously decided that taking into consideration the occurrence at civil court as indicated by the association's letter, all the learned lawyers in the state of Jharkhand practicing in High Courts, district courts and sub-divisional courts shall abstain from judicial works peacefully for one day as a symbolic protest against the incident reported by the district bar association Daltonganj".

The JSBC has also decided to send a four-member committee comprising Abdul Kalam Rashidi, Hemant Kumar Shikarwar, Kundan Prakashan and Rinku Bagat to Daltonganj to inquire into the matter and submit a report.

Secretary of JSBC Rajesh Pandey stated, "Following the resolution of the JSBC, lawyer have remained away from judicial works. The functioning of the court has been affected".
