The Supreme Court will hear today at 2 PM the suo motu case taken over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College Hospital, Kolkata.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra will hear the matter.
Previously, the Court had pursued the status report filed by the CBI and said that it had disturbing details about certain lapses by the Kolkata police. The Court had also urged the protesting doctors in West Bengal to resume their duties. The Court also took exception to an advisory issued by the West Bengal Government to avoid night duty for women doctors, saying that equal work opportunities can't be denied to women under the guise of protection.

CJI: all that you have to do is address an email, they will ensure that representation of the residential doctors will be heard
CJI : the cabinet secretary are coordinating, they will take into account what the WB has to say .....please write an email, request an urgent appointment and give them inputs, it will be a welcomed suggestion, the SG can communicate
Jaisingh presses for making a sub-taskforce for WB
Jaisingh : NTF doesn't have any representation by WB, only this court can alter the composition, humble request to include at least one member

CJI: we are not staying the proceedings before HC ...HC seasoned enough to know which areas to enter upon. SG can I we have report of the NTF on next date? SG shall place on record of the progress of the NTF on the next date
Dwivedi: a patient died because there was no bed provided, no doctor attended
Nandy : no these allegations cannot be made
CJI: there is assertion by the state they are denying it
Jaisingh : they are performing all essential services including IPD and OPD services
Jaisingh : the medical name is essential and emergency services
CJI: Jaisingh has categorically stated that all doctors shall perform essential services including IPD and OPD
Nandy: there have been attacks in another hospital on doctors
(as against the contention raised that doctors are not performing OPD services)
CJI: Ms Jaisingh assures the court that doctors are performing all duties and services
Adv - let them at least disclose if he (new principal) has any involvement with these persons
CJI: SG , they need your clearance for the tender work
Adv: 4 years back, he was responsible for selling babies...
CJI: you cannot throw these allegations across the bar, you put it on record on next hearing
Counsel object to the adv and ask him to disclose which party is he representing and where is he getting such information
CJI: the status report submitted by WB indicates the ongoing work ....thought the state has indicated that remaining work will be completed by 31st October, but state has assured that it will make all endeavours to complete the work by 15th October 2024
