Supreme Court Judge Justice A K Sikri has retired today.

At the farewell function organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association today evening, he said " I have a part of me that is feminine. After all, justice goddess is in the form of a lady. Every judge should have some element of femininity for a fair decision making".

A visibly emotional Justice Sikri said that he has tried to contribute to the system in his own humble way.

"Wisdom comes from all corners and we have to listen to everyone. I have learned a lot from my law clerks and my own interns", he said.

"One of the most powerful desire I have is to be more than I am. A desire to improve, purify and expand. It is this goodness coupled with good wishes that shall guide me", he added.

Speaking at the function, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said that Justice Sikri brough forward fresh insights to the institution. CJI applauded Justice Sikri's special contributions to taxation law and environmental law. "He had a profound care for the marginalized sections of the society", CJI mentioned.

"I feel compelled to mention the opening words in his Aadhaar judgment - It is better to be unique than the best because being the best makes you the number 1, but being unique makes you the only one", the CJI said while concluding his address.

Justice Sikri, the second senior judge of the Supreme Court, was part of several significant decisions such as the Aadhaar judgment, the Delhi Government vs LG case, master of roster judgment etc.

The SCBA President Rakesh Sharma said that Justice Sikri's greatness was in his "erudite grasp of law" and "commitment to the cause of justice".

He was adjudged as one of the 50 influential figures in the field of intellectual property, and was a pioneer of human rights law, added the SCBA president.
