Breaking: Supreme Court Orders To Continue Status Quo In Jahangirpuri Demolitions Till Further Orders
Dave: some lawyers have also filed petitions, that also be listed
Justice Rao: why should we have so many persons coming in?
Dave: citizens have fear
Justice Rao: one petition is sufficient for us to take notice
Bench: Issue notice in writ petitions. Status quo to be maintained till further orders. List after 2 weeks. Pleadings to be completed till then.
SG: argument was given time was 2 and because we realised we started at 9
Justice Rao: We’ll take serious view of demolition that took place after information was given to Mayor.
Justice Rao: we will ask them to give details of demolition, we’ll ask them to file affidavit and you file counter and yesterday’s order will continue
Justice Rao asks Sr Adv Hegde if notices were issued
Sr Adv Hegde: no
SG: notice was issued
SG: notices were issued for buildings
Justice Gavai: statute provides for something to be done in a certain way, it also provides for appellate remedy, it provides time for 5-15 days.
Justice Rao: the demolition yesterday was only of stalls chairs tables etc?
Justice Gavai: For that you require a bulldozer?
SG: notices were issued
J Rao: notice for stall chair table?
SG submits that even in MP notices were issued to people in 2021 and 2022
SG: This has become a pattern, whenever issue arises instead of individuals coming in, organisation file petition and entire spectrum jumps in.
