The Supreme Court will hear today JMM leader and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's plea for interim bail for election campaigning.
He has been under custody since January 31 when he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an alleged land scam.
A vacation bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Satish Chandra Sharma will hear the matter. The ED has filed a reply objecting to Soren's plea, saying that allowing interim bail for campaigning will set a bad precedent as all jailed politicians will start demanding it.

Bench re-lists matter for tomorrow
ASG: I'm sorry if I offended by interrupting on occasions. My filter was not working today
J Datta: I think you'll appreciate this...when another counsel starts arguing, he has prepared arguments in his own way...when your turn comes, you can contest
Sibal: Let me come back tomorrow
ASG: It may be after vacations now
Sibal: Ex facie this is cooked up
J Datta: There is a good case on merits. But we have to look at it from a diff perspective. Tomorrow
J Datta: Doesn't the logic in Rahul Modi apply? Here, it's not habeas corpus. But you're in illegal custody. There are judicial orders of cognizance
Sibal: It will have to be said that moment I filed for bail, my challenge to arrest is extinguished

Sibal: It will have to be said that moment I filed for bail, my challenge to arrest is extinguished
J Datta: Does the judgment in [...] apply?
Sibal: No, it was a habeas corpus case. HC has distinguished it
ASG gives citation of judgment
Sibal: Please don't interrupt, I am arguing
ASG: Just helping the Court
Sibal: I'm helping court, don't worry
Sibal: I am not saying don't rely on this or that statement. Because HC delayed it, I had to ask for bail
ASG: Ditto arguments were made
Sibal: There is nothing to show Bhanu Prashad shared the property details with Soren.
J Datta: In application, you said arrest should not have been made
Sibal: An offense cannot be made out under PMLA - I did not argue that. I argued that in High Court. Arrest is bad on facts
J Datta: Same arguments were taken earlier when application was filed
Sibal: No
