Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud mourned the death of Senior Advocate Fali S Nariman.
"Mr Attorney, we really mourn the sad demise of Fali Nariman. He was a great giant of law and an intellectual. It's very sad," CJI Chandrachud said, addressing the Attorney General for India, as soon as he sat.
AG Venkataramani said that Nariman was actively preparing for the Constitution Bench hearing in the reference related to the Arbitration law and that he had contacted Nariman recently in relation to the case. "It is indeed a difficult news to swallow," AG said.
"We spent half an hour together on this matter...," AG said.
CJI said that he was told that Nariman was working on the Constitution Bench reference till late last night fine-tuning the submission.
AG said that yesterday forenoon, he and Nariman had agreed to make a joint mentioning before the CJI regarding the Constitution Bench reference.
Tributes are pouring in for the late jurist, the news about whose demise has saddened the legal fraternity.
His burial will be held tomorrow at 10 am at Parsi Aramgah in New Delhi.
