In a new twist to the Chief Justice Sexual harassment case, Delhi police has reinstated the husband and brother-n-law of the complainant as Head constables, reports Indian Express.
The husband and brother-in-law of complainant were facing departmental inquiries — the former for allegedly calling the CJI's office, and the latter for allegedly concealing a 2015 police complaint against him over "unruly behaviour". The Crime Branch officer had said that a joint inquiry had been ordered against the two men and they had been suspended — both on December 28, 2018, says the report.
In April 2019 the complainant, who leveled sexual harassment allegation against Chief Justice Gogoi alleged that the CJI was persecuting her family as well, and had caused the suspension of her husband from service.
"The suspension order has been revoked. Both of them have been reinstated last week but the departmental inquiry against them is still pending," Additional Commissioner of Police (Delhi Armed police) C K Mein told The Indian Express.
The woman's brother-in-law confirmed to the news paper that both he and his brother had been reinstated. "We were reinstated a few days ago and now we hope they will also close our departmental inquiry as we are innocent… My brother is currently in Mumbai with his wife for her ear treatment." The woman's husband told The Indian Express: "I am not aware of the development as I am on leave."
In April 2019 the complainant, a former staff of Supreme Court alleged that the Chief Justice of India had made unwelcome sexual advances at her and when she resisted, she was subjected to frequent transfers and and was eventually dismissed. She further alleged that the CJI was persecuting her family as well, and had caused the suspension of her husband from service of Delhi
In May 2019 the in-house panel has given clean chit to CJI Ranjan Gogoi in the matter.
