The Society for Democratic Rights (SDR), New Delhi, and the Georgetown University Law Center, Washington DC will co-host the 3rd Comparative Constitutional Law discussion on the topic “Perspectives from the Supreme Courts of India and the United States”.

The inaugural discussion in the series was held in October 2020 on the occasion of 150 years celebrations of Georgetown Law. Our esteemed guests from India in the past have been Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana (Retd.), Chief Justice of India, Justice UU Lalit (Retd.), Justice Ms. Justice Indu Malhotra (Retd.), and Justice Ms. Pratibha M. Singh.

This year the esteemed guests will be the Chief Justice of India Dr. DY Chandrachud and Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court Mr. Stephen Breyer (Retd.). The Conversation will be held for the first time physically at the Georgetown University Law Center, Washington DC, USA. The event shall be historic since the Chief Justice of the largest democracy will be on an open public platform with a Justice of the United States Supreme Court.

The event will mark the global responses of the Indian Supreme Court under the leadership of the country’s 50th Chief Justice and other Justices of the apex court, and the role played by the American Supreme Court in it’s journey. The esteemed guests will compare the approaches of the two Supreme Courts in ensuring fundamental rights of the citizens of their respective nations.
