The Chief Justice of India Dr DY Chandrachud on Friday announced the launch of 'Advocate Appearance Portal' - an online portal through which the advocates can record their appearance. The online portal will do away with manual filing of appearance slips and is a step taken towards making the registry paperless. While holding the court today, CJI DY Chandrachud remarked–

"We are streamlining the process of appearance memos. Exactly what is uploaded by the lawyers, we will get. The court masters will not have to type it."

The Advocate Appearance Portal has been designed and developed to ensure speed, accuracy and efficacy for recording the appearance of the Advocates in the Record of Proceedings. It has provided the Advocates on Record to certify the appearance of Advocates in any matter and send the appearance slip through the said portal.

This new online process for appearance slip is user friendly and is a step away from the existing process for Appearance Slip which was up until now received through Advocates directly in the court or through email on the day of the case is listed. The existing process required the verification of the AOR to be done manually. Further, the names of Senior Advocates and Advocates were also typed manually in Record of Proceedings under the existing process.

The AORs will now have access to their matters appearing in cause list of particular day and may mention appearances in the matter. The Appearance Slip will be received online through the Advocate Appearance Portal and at the time of login, verification of the AOR is to be done by software through One Time Password (OTP). This online facility is also an environment friendly step through which approximate 2,00,000 (Two lacs) papers per annum, will be saved.

The portal will be functional from January 1, 2023.
