CJI DY Chandrachud Unveils Two Handbooks On Civil and Criminal Law Published By Bar Council Of Maharashtra & Goa

Chief Justice of India Dr. D. Y. Chandrachud on Saturday unveiled two handbooks on civil and criminal law practice in an event organized by the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa (BCMG).

The CJI also unveiled the Bar Council-AIR News and Views Channel during the felicitation ceremony attended by Supreme Court Judge Justice Bhushan R. Gavai and acting Chief Justice of Bombay HC S. V. Gangapurwala.

“This was one of the most waited dream project of the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa. The handbooks are 1000 pages each and the books will be delivered free of cost to 50,000 newly enrolled advocates. The is the first Bar council of India to publish such a resource of knowledge for young members of the bar”, according to BCMG member Adv. Jayant Jaibhave.

The handbooks, have comparative study on every aspect of practice, Jaibhave said. The handbooks show a torch on every aspect of practice, he added.

The handbooks also have a QR code which leads to a web bank having thousands of drafts of civil suits, criminal complaints, agreement, documents, based on case laws, according Jaibhave. The handbooks will be distributed to 50,000 newly enrolled advocates.

The project was carried out under the mentorship of Justice B. R. Gavai, and with the assistance of All India Reporter.

Jaibhave said that 40,000 new advocates registered with the BCMG since January 2020. Not all of them will have seniors to guide them, hence a collective responsibility was acknowledged by the bar council, he said. Jaibhave said that about 150 lawyers worked for over 15 months to prepare the material.
