BREAKING | Supreme Court Registry Refuses To List Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's Plea For Extension Of Interim Bail

The Supreme Court Registry on Wednesday (May 29) refused to list the plea of Delhi Chief  Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking a 7-day extension of his interim bail in the Liquor Policy Case.

The Top Court's refusal is premised on the grounds that since Kejriwal was given the liberty to move the trial court for regular bail, the present application will not be maintainable. Additionally, it was pointed out that since the judgment on the challenge to the arrest is already reserved, the present extension application has no correlation to the main petition. 

The bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta on May 10 allowed interim release of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was in judicial custody in the Delhi liquor policy case, till June 1. A detailed report of the interim order can be read here.  

The Aam Aadmi Party Supremo had filed for an extension stating that he has to undergo diagnostic tests/investigations, including a PET-CT Scan and prayed for an extension of the relief for a period of 7 days.  

It may be noted that yesterday, Senior Advocate AM Singhvi mentioned Kejriwal's application before a bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and KV Viswanathan. Justice Maheshwari stated that the matter was already heard and the Judgment was reserved. The bench directed the memo to be listed before the Chief Justice of India for passing of an appropriate order. As per the interim order dated May 10, Kejriwal has to surrender on June 2.
