Allahabad High Court Starts Sharing VC Links On Its Website

Recently legal journalists and Advocates Areeb Uddin (Legal Correspondent, Bar & Bench) and Sparsh Upadhyay (Special Legal Correspondent, Live Law) along with four law students had moved the High Court seeking permission for Live Streaming and Live Reporting of court proceedings.

"The fundamental right to Freedom of the Press, of the petitioners – as journalists/ media persons – is well-settled in the day to gain access to VC or physical hearings and report the same as they occur, as the same is an implicit aspect of Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution," the Petitioners had argued.

Pursuant thereof, a Division Bench of Justices Pankaj Naqvi and Jayant Banerji had said that the matter is under active consideration at the administrative side and also indicated that there is no embargo on media persons reporting Court proceedings.

'No One Is Disputing Your Right': Allahabad HC To Legal Journalists Seeking VC Links; Says Administration Looking Into Matter"Who is preventing you?" the Bench had asked Advocate Shashwat Anand, appearing for the Petitioners, when he insisted that an interim order be passed in the matter preventing coercive action against those who indulge in live reporting.

"No one is disputing your right. They're working on all the aspects of the matter, we have to give them some time," the Bench had said.In related news, the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday (May 31) issued notice to Madhya Pradesh High Court and State Government on a plea by 4 Legal Journalists who have moved the High Courts seeking permission for Live-streaming and Live-reporting.
