Allahabad High Court has started sharing the VC links for its virtual Court proceedings. The links are available on the official High Court website.

Recently legal journalists and Advocates Areeb Uddin (Legal Correspondent, Bar & Bench) and Sparsh Upadhyay (Special Legal Correspondent, Live Law) along with four law students had moved the High Court seeking permission for Live Streaming and Live Reporting of court proceedings.

"The fundamental right to Freedom of the Press, of the petitioners – as journalists/ media persons – is well-settled in the day to gain access to VC or physical hearings and report the same as they occur, as the same is an implicit aspect of Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution," the Petitioners had argued.

Pursuant thereof, a Division Bench of Justices Pankaj Naqvi and Jayant Banerji had said that the matter is under active consideration at the administrative side and also indicated that there is no embargo on media persons reporting Court proceedings.

"No one is disputing your right. They're working on all the aspects of the matter, we have to give them some time," the Bench had said.In related news, the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday (May 31) issued notice to Madhya Pradesh High Court and State Government on a plea by 4 Legal Journalists who have moved the High Courts seeking permission for Live-streaming and Live-reporting.

A Division Bench of Justices Sheel Nagu and GS Ahluwalia issued the notices while observing that the Petitioners have an arguable point and posted the matter for further hearing on June 9.

However, the Court did pose a question regarding the right of the media to report Court observations, conversation with the lawyer not forming part of the Court's proceedings.
Significantly, Justice Sheel Nagu specifically observed that as far as the question of the court being open for public view is considered, Court proceedings should be open, the same shall be held in public view, unless that person creates nuisance and that Court must be open to all.
