Symbiosis Law School, Pune wins the 2nd IIT Law School National Moot Court Competition
The second edition of the IIT Law School National Moot Court Competition was held at the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur from 6th Nov to 8th Nov 2015. The objective of the competition was to introduce law students to important issues arising in Intellectual Property Rights Litigation. This year the Moot preposition was primarily based on contemporary copyright and digital rights questions of law.
Thirty Law Schools from across the country participated in the competition. The Competition was inaugurated by Hon'ble Justice (Retd.) Shyamal Kumar Sen, Former Governor, West Bengal who was accompanied by Prof Souvik Bhattacharyya, Director (Officiating), IIT Kharagpur as the Guest of Honour.
The preliminary and semi-final rounds were judged by more than 30 judges including notable IP lawyers, academicians, and senior counsels throughout the country. The final round was judged by Honb'le Justice (Retd.) Asok Kumar Ganguly, Former Chairman of West Bengal Human Rights Commission & Former Judge Supreme Court of India, Honb'le Justice Aniruddha Bose, Calcutta High Court and Hon'ble Justice Soumen Sen, Calcutta High Court.
After an exhaustive series of arguments the Symbiosis Law School, Pune bagged the winner’s title and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 along with a trophy whereas the SOA National Institute of Law, Bhubaneswar emerged as a Runner up and were awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000 along with a trophy. The Best Memorial Award consisting of Rs 5,000 went to National Law University Odisha, Cuttack. The Best Researcher Award consisting of Rs 5,000 went to the Shashank Pathak from the National Law University, Assam. The Best Speaker Prize for preliminary round consisting of Rs 5,000 was bagged by Souradeep Mukhopadhyay from the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala and the Best Speaker Prize for final round with Rs 5,000 was won by Rahul Gupta from the Symbiosis Law School, Pune.
