IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education), a pan India movement to give proper training to underprivileged children and help them become leading lawyers and community advocates will be starting a 6 a side football tournament to raise funds for children studying at the prestigious National Law Universities and the other leading colleges in India.
The IDIA football league 2014 will be held on 6th and 7th of September, 2014 at the Kamala Mills Compound in Mumbai with India’s leading legal search and consulting firm - Vahura being the Prize Sponsors.
16 teams from law firms and corporate houses, with around 160 players will compete for the IFL Trophy, The rules of the game have been tweaked to make itmore interesting than ever, with the off side rule going off the rule book and also each game to last for 15 minutes only. An award ceremony with a fundraising event will bring the much anticipated tournament to an end on 7th September, 2014.
Prof. Shamnad Basheer, the Founder and Managing Trustee of IDIA is quite excited about the event and said “This is our very first venture into a sports tournament. We hope that it will be a fun event, showcase some serious talent within the legal fraternity and help gather much needed funds for our kids at the various law schools. Many thanks to our director Aranb Roy for setting this in motion. And to wonderful sponsors for coming forward so readily to help us pull this through.”
Ritvik Lukose, Co-Founder of Vahura, said “accessing quality legal education is like trying to play golf. You need to be a part of a special club and have a lot of money.
