The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a PIL seeking court 's order declaring the Indus Water treaty between India and Pakistan as void.
The bench headed by Chief Justice of India J S Khehar found no merit in the PIL filed by advocate M L sharma and dismissed the plea.
"The treaty between India and Pakistan is more than half a century old," CJI said and rejected Sharma's argument thy it's not a treaty but an agreement between leaders of two countries.
Sharma in his PIL, claimed that this Indus water was not an treaty but a personal agreement. He pleaded to the top court to declare the treaty void on the ground that it was not a valid document as this document does not bear signature of President of India.
The issue also carries national importance and thereby the Apex court should look into the issue, Sharma argued. The apex court, however, refused to entertain Sharma's plea.
