It is the retirement week of Chief Justice J S Khehar and expectedly the Supreme Court  is headed for an action packed week.

CJI Khehar had headed the constitution  bench which heard the triple talaq and right to privacy matters and the judgment will have to be pronounced this week.

Apart from that though officially his last day is on August 26, it is a Saturday (court holiday) which means that the Supreme Court Bar Association will be holding his farewell meet on August 26,which is his last working day.

The swearing in of new Chief Justice Dipak Misra is likely to take place on the morning ofAugust 28.

WHAT IS COMING THIS WEEK



  • A nine-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court  headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar will pronounce its verdict on whether right to privacy can be elevated to the status of a fundamental right under the Indian Constitution.

  • A five judge constitution bench headed by the  Chief Justice will pronounce its historic judgment on constitutional validity of triple talaq.

  • The bench headed by Chief Justice Khehar is also likely to pronounce orders in the case regarding appointment of judicial officers in the subordinate judiciary. Recently the court had indicated that it was inclined to go ahead with a proposal for a centralised selection mechanism for appointment of judicial officers in the subordinate judiciary even if there was no amicable consensus among various the high courts and the states.

  • Farewell for retiring CJI Khehar by the Supreme Court Bar Association on Friday, his last working day.

  • The swearing in of new Chief Justice Dipak Misra is likely to take place on the morning of August 28.
