SC Directs 3 Member Committee To Examine Objections To Delhi Bar Council Elections [Read Order]

The Supreme Court on Monday directed a three-member committee to examine the objections to the Delhi Bar Council elections held in April this year.

During the hearing, the Bench comprising Justice R.F. Nariman and Justice A.M. Sapre was informed that while 25 candidates were elected to the Delhi Bar Council in April, several complaints and objections have since been raised.

It then directed a three member Committee to decide on these objections within a period of 10 days, and ordered, "In the absence of any such decision, it will be taken that the objections have been rejected..."

Thereafter, the results have been directed to be published, and the new office bearers will be allowed to take over.

Besides, the Court also appointed former Judge of Karnataka High Court, Justice Ajit Gunjal to oversee the counting process for the Karnataka Bar Council elections. This is in view of another order passed by the Court on 2 May, when it had refused to order re-election for the Bar Council, noting that there were no allegations or findings on tampering of votes by the 3-Member Committee.
