The Judges recommended to be made permanent by the Collegium comprising Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, Justice J. Chelameswar and Justice Ranjan Gogoi are Justice Krishna Singh and Justice Rajiv Lochan Mehrotra.
The Allahabad High Court had, on 20 March 2018, placed names of eight Additional Judges before the Collegium for its consideration. These were:
- Justice Krishna Singh
- Justice Rajiv Lochan Mehrotra
- Justice Mahboob Ali
- Justice Rang Nath Pandey
- Justice Aniruddha Singh
- Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh-I
- Justice Ifaqat Ali Khan
- Justice Umesh Chandra Tripathi
The Collegium, however, postponed the proposal pertaining to everybody else except for Justice Krishna Singh and Justice Mehrotra, noting that they were set to retire on 9 July and 11 June respectively.
Apart from consulting other Apex Court Judges who are conversant with the affairs of the Allahabad High Court, the collegium also constituted a committee to assess the judgments of the two recommendees.
Thereafter, finding them suitable for being appointed as Permanent Judges, it confirmed the recommendation.
