SC Collegium Recommends Transfer Of High Court Judges [Read Resolutions]

The Supreme Court collegium has resolved to transfer some High Court judges. The Collegium comprising Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice MB Lokur, Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice AK Sikri has made the following recommendations:

• The proposal to transfer Justice Pritinker Diwaker from Chhattisgarh High Court to Allahabad High Court has been reiterated. The Collegium had originally made the proposal on 10 January. However, soon after, Justice Diwaker had requested that the proposal be reconsidered.

Justice Diwakar’s representation was now rejected, with the Collegium opining, “The Collegium while examining the request of Mr. Justice Pritinker Diwaker has factored in all relevant aspects including his response.         The Collegium does not find any merit in his representation and is, therefore, of the opinion that the request made by Mr. Justice Pritinker Diwaker cannot be acceded to. The Collegium accordingly resolves to reiterate its recommendation dated 10th January, 2018 for his transfer, in the interest of better administration of justice, to the Allahabad High Court.”    

• Justice Lanusungkum Jamir, who is currently functioning as an Additional Judge of Gauhati High Court has been recommended to be transferred to Manipur High Court.

• Justice N. Kotiswar Singh has been proposed to be transferred from Manipur High Court to Gauhati High Court.


• Justice Suresh Kumar Kait, who has been functioning as a judge of Telangana & Andhra Pradesh High Court, has been transferred to his parent court—the Delhi High Court. This was after the judge requested to be transferred back to the Delhi High Court, after serving in the Telangana & Andhra Pradesh High Court since April, 2016.
