The Supreme Court is set to close for summer vacation on May 9. It is scheduled to reopen on July 3.
However, in a notification issued on Wednesday, some division benches were nominated for hearing urgent miscellaneous matters and regular hearing matters during the summer vacation.
A bench comprising Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Navin Sinha would adorn the division bench from May 11 to 14. Another bench comprising Justice L Nageswara Rao and Justice Navin Sinha will be sitting in the division bench between May 15 and 27. The constitution of the benches for second part of vacation will be notified later.
Though not mentioned in the notification were the three constitution benches that will be sitting to determine the legality of triple talaq and the right to dignity of Muslim women, WhatsApp’s implications on citizen’s right to privacy and the vexed citizenship tangle in Assam.
The court had expressed readiness to hear a whopping and unprecedented 5,298 cases, which figure in its notice for ‘Advance Regular Hearing Matters List’, for summer vacation.
