The total case backlog in Supreme Court now stood at 60,751 as on May 1, 2017 out of which 39 are constitution bench matters, according to the latest pendency report uploaded on the apex court website.
This meant that the apex court under justice J S Khehar as Chief Justice after he took charge of the office on January 3, 2017, disposed off 1,786 cases.
As per the report dated January 1, 2017 the pendency was 6,2537.
Out of the pending 60, 751, admission matters comprise of 33, 656 and 27,095 are regular hearing matters
Of the admission matters, 28, 553 are complete, that is in which all preliminaries are complete and ready for hearing.
5,103 are “incomplete”, that is preliminaries not complete like process fee not paid, notice yet not served, pleadings not complete.
Out of the 27,095 regular hearing matters, 20, 980 are ready for regular hearing . All preliminaries are completed after admission
Therefore 18.46% matters are Incomplete/Not Ready required preliminaries to be completed.
Out of Ready/Complete matters, there are 39 Constitution Bench matters
Out of 60,751 pending matters, 11,218 matters (5,103 Incomplete Miscellaneous matters and 6,115 ‘Not Ready Regular Hearing matters’) are such matters which cannot be listed for ‘hearing’ before Hon’ble Court, the circular said.
