The Supreme Court on Tuesday, appointed Justice J N Patel as interim chairman of Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust, Mumbai. The bench comprising of Justice A. K. Patnaik, Justice Fakkir Mohamed Ibrahim Kalifulla has decided to constitute an interim Board of Trustees on the Special Leave Petition (C) No. 3772 of 2014. The Board comprising of Smt. Charu K. Mehta and Smt. Rekha H. Sheth, and Mr. Justice J.N. Patel, former Judge of the Bombay High Court and former Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court as its Chairman is appointed till the court decides the legal dispute.

 "Mr. Justice J.N. Patel will be entitled to a fee of Rs.1,00,000/- (Rupees one lac) per meeting of the Board of the Trustees from the funds of the Lilavati Hospital and he will have the power to convene a meeting of the Board of Trustees as and when a meeting of the Board of Trustees is required to be held for transacting any business including passing of budgets. The management of the Lilavati Hospital and the staff of the Trust will cooperate with and assist Mr. Justice J.N. Patel in the work of the trust in all respects" the Court said.
