Prof. (Dr.) Tahir Mahmood Bags N.R. Madhava Menon Best Law Teacher Award 2017
Eminent jurist Prof. (Dr.) Tahir Mahmood has been awarded the prestigious Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon Best Law Teacher Award – 2017.
Honouring law teachers and law schools in India, Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) and Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy Training (MILAT) have been observing Law Teachers’ Day in September since 2009. Celebrating Law Teachers’ Day this year, SILF and MILAT announced the recipients of this year’s awards last week.
Professor Dr Tahir Mahmood is currently the Distinguished Jurist Chair, Professor of Eminence & Chairman of Amity University.
The SILF MILAT South Asian Jurist Award – 2017 has been jointly awarded to two eminent jurists from Nepal and Sri Lanka, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mohan Peiris, former Chief Justice of Sri Lanka, and Prof. (Dr.) Tara Prasad Sapkota, Dean, Faculty of Law, Tribhuvan University.
Prof V.C. Vivekanandan received the SILF-MILAT Legal Education Innovation Award – 2017. The Prof. (Justice) A.B. Rohatgi Jurist Award – 2017 has been awarded to Dr. T. K. Viswanathan.
The Best Law Students of the Year Awards, instituted last year, have been awarded to Mr. Kiran Manokaran and Ms Ekakshra Mahajan for 2016.
Among institutions, Mar Gregorios College of Law, Trivandrum received the SILF-MILAT Institutional Excellence Award – 2017 represented by His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, Major Archbishop - Catholicos of the Malankara Catholic Church and the Major Archbishop of Trivandrum.
Commenting on the awards, Mr Lalit Bhasin, President, Bar Association of India, and President, Society of Indian Law Firms said, “Each year we try to honour the most deserved law teachers and institutions not only in India but within the SAARC region. This year, we are especially proud to honour the two eminent jurists from Nepal and Sri Lanka. Going ahead, we hope to continue honouring our teachers because they help build the foundations of the entire legal fraternity.”
The awards were given away at the Law Teachers’ Day Award Function & Symposium held at the Hyatt Regency, New Delhi, on 9th September, 2017. The symposium focused on, “Restructuring LL.B courses to get graduates practice ready”. Attending the function in large numbers were Law Teachers, Vice Chancellors, and Directors.
