Prof. Bhavani Prasad Panda gets NR Madhava Menon Best Law Teacher Award 2016

On the occasion of the 8th Law Teacher’s Day, Prof. Bhavani Prasad Panda was conferred with NR Madhava Menon Best Law Teacher Award 2016 in recognition of his distinguished services to legal education and legal profession.

At a function on Friday evening, the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) and the Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy Training (MILAT) felicitated educators and institutes for their outstanding contribution towards development of legal education in the country.

Prof. Shamnad Basheer was recognized for innovation and leadership in the development of IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access) and promoting legal careers among the under-privileged and was conferred with the Legal Education Innovation Award 2016.

College of Law and Governance, Mody University of Science and Technology, Lakshmangarh, Rajasthan, was given the Institutional Excellence Award 2016 in recognition of academic performance, inspiring leadership and socially purposeful empowerment of women through quality higher education.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was among the celebrated stalwarts of the evening for distinguished services to the development of legal education, legal profession and constitutional governance in India. He was conferred with AB Rohtagi Jurist Award 2016.

Encouraging emerging talent in the legal arena, the Best Law Student of the Year 2016 award was given to Mounica Kasturi of Symbiosis International University Law School, Pune, and Mukul Krishna Vyas of National Law University, Jodhpur, in female and male categories, respectively.

While presenting the awards, Supreme Court judge Justice Chelameswar congratulated the SILF and the MILAT for recognising the role of law teachers and law schools in producing quality legal education and giving rise to a meritorious legal force.

The award ceremony was preceded by the annual law symposium presided over by Supreme Court judge Justice Arjun Sikri, in which issues relating to trade in legal services, entry of foreign law firms in India, rules for foreign legal consultants, etc., were discussed.
