In an ‘exceptional’ order, the Patna High Court has ordered re-evaluation of answer sheet of a Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) student of Intermediate Examination (Science), 2016, though there is no provision for re-evaluation under BSEB regulations.
Kavya Singh, a student of MK College, found that she did not get the marks she deserved in her physics paper and sought copies of answer sheets through RTI, which the BSEB provided her. Realising that her paper was not valued properly, she applied for re-evaluation.
But the BSEB has no provision for re-checking/re-evaluation of answer sheet under its regulations. So, she approached the high court.
The high court, after perusing the copy of the answer sheet that she produced along with the petition, observed that there is some substance in her contention and her answer sheet had not been evaluated properly. The court, treating the instant case as ‘exceptional’, directed the chairman of the board to look into the matter and get her answer sheet re-checked/re-evaluated within 15 days.
Earlier, a division bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court had pulled up the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) for not properly evaluating the answer book of English language examination of a student and directed the board to re-evaluate the answer book, though there is no provision of re-evaluation.
