Parl Standing Committee Invites Views On Citizens’ Data Security & Privacy

In wake of Cambridge Analytica’s data leak case and Facebook users' data breach, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology headed by MP Anurag Singh Thakur has invited views from the general public as well as experts on the issue of ‘citizens' data security and privacy’.

The committee is examining various aspects related to the subject as the government is taking a strict view of the ever-growing need for data protection.

“In view of the immense importance of the subject, the Committee for the purpose of wider consultations invite suggestions from the public in general and experts/professionals/organizations/associations and stakeholders interested in the subject in particular,” said the government release.

The memoranda, which might be submitted to the committee, would form part of the records of the committee and would be treated as strictly confidential and the contents thereof would not be divulged to anyone, as such an act would constitute a ‘breach of privilege’ of the committee.

The release also stated that anyone desirous of giving oral evidence before the committee, besides sending memoranda, will have to intimate the Lok Sabha Secretariat in advance but the decision of the committee would be final in this regard.

Those desirous of submitting the memoranda to the committee can send two copies of their opinion either in English or in Hindi to Director (C&IT), Lok Sabha Secretariat within two weeks.
