A Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai asked the state government and others including CBI to reply on a plea of former chief minister V S Achuthanandan who sought a CBI investigation into the Kozhikode ice cream parlor sex scandal, saying the criminal justice has been vitiated in a systematic manner in this case that can be remedied by only ordering an independent probe.

The former Chief Minister has moved the Supreme Court against an order of Kerala high court which had dismissed his petition seeking a CBI investigation in the case allegedly involving industries minister P K Kunhalikutty.

Senior advocate Shekhar Naphade, appearing for the former Chief Minister, said that the high court glossed over a case which involved young girls being sexually exploited and monies have been exchanged to suppress the shocking incident. Stressing on the fact that the investigation has not moved even after lapse of a decade, Naphade called it a shocking incident and said if this case does not warrant a CBI investigation then which case will merit such kind of investigation.

Denying disclosing the names of the culprits, the senior advocate said revealing the names in the open court will be a shameful thing for the institution.

During the investigation the Special Investigation Team had questioned former Kerala High Court Judges Justice K Thankappan and Justice K Narayana Kurup, on allegation of accepting bribe for issuing a judgment in favour of Mr. PK Kunhalikutty, the present Industrial Minister of Kerala.
