'Yeshu Yeshu' Fame Self-Styled Pastor Bajinder Singh Gets Life Imprisonment In 2018 Rape Case

A Mohali court on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to self-styled Christian preacher Pastor and "Yeshu Yeshu" fame Bajinder Singh in a 2018 rape case. The court pronounced the conviction last week.

Singh, a self-proclaimed pastor, runs the Glory and Wisdom Church in Punjab and is famous on social media for his claims to cure ailments and other problems by offering miracle services.

Judge Vikrant Kumar, Additional Session Judge convicted him under Sections 376 (rape), 323 (punishment for voluntary causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC.

A complaint was filed against him by a woman alleging that Singh sexually assaulted her on the pretext of helping her travel abroad. She claimed that he committed rape upon her at his residence in Mohali and also recorded a video of the incident.

It was stated in the complaint that the pastor also threatened to post the video on social media if she did not agree to his demands.

A three-member special investigation team was formed by the Punjab government to probe the allegations.

A detailed order is awaited.
