Gangster-turned-politician Atique Ahmad’s son Asad and his aide Ghulam were today shot by the UP Police's Special Task Force team in Jhansi in an encounter. They both were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder Case.
Pal was outside his home in the Dhoomanganj area of Prayagraj in February. He was a key witness in the 2005 murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal. The sensational daylight murder also claimed the life of a UP Police constable, who was deployed in Umesh’s security. The names of Asad, Ahmad and Ahmad's brother, Ashraf had surfaced as accused in the matter.
“Asad and Ghulam were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case of Prayagraj and were carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh each. They were killed in an encounter with the UP Special Task Force team. The UP STF team was led by Deputy SP Navendu and Vimal. Sophisticated foreign-made weapons were recovered from the accused” said Special Additional Director General (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar while speaking with news agency PTI.
Earlier today, a Court in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj District remanded Gangster-politician Atique Ahmad and his brother Ashraf to 7 day police custody in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case.
UP STF ADG Amitabh Yash informed the press that the team had been tracking Asad and Ghulam for the last one and a half months, soon after they had gone out of sight after killing Umesh Pal. As per media reports, last missed the STF had missed Gulam by a delay of just five minutes, however, he was successfully traced in Jhansi where he was killed in the encounter.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as well as Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya congratulated the UP STF.
