The Kerala High Court on Wednesday closed the contempt case alleging wilful disobedience of an order granting police protection to employees and workmen of Adani Vizhinjam Port for free ingress and egress to the construction site in Vizhinjam.

When the matter was taken up today, the counsel representing the State submitted before the bench of Justice Anu Sivaraman that the protest has been called off. The counsel representing the respondents also submitted that instructions have been given for removal of the tent, erected by protestors on the road leading to the under-construction Vizhinjam Port, today itself.

The court had earlier said the protests could go on peacefully, without causing any obstruction to the under-construction site and without any trespass into the project area. The contempt plea had alleged despite the court order for police protection at the project site, the protestors continued to obstruction the work at the port.

The plea seeking police protection has been posted for Monday.

Advocates Roshen D. Alexander, Tina Alex Thomas, Harimohan M., Roshen & Roshen Advocates appeared on behalf of the petitioners. State Attorney and Government Pleader N. Manoj Kumar; Senior Advocate V.J. Mathew, and Advocates Vipin P. Varghese, Adarsh Mathew, Kevin Mathew George, Meera Elsa George, and Merlin Mathew appeared on behalf of the various respondents.
