Advocate Victoria Gowri, who is in the middle of controversy after complaints regarding her statements about religious minorities, will take oath a judge of the Madras High Court tomorrow at 10.35 AM.
A circular issued by the Madras High Court stated that Gowri will take oath along with four others, whose appointments as additional judges were notified by the Central Government today.
Significantly, the Supreme Court will also hear two writ petitions which have been filed challenging her appointment on the ground that she has made hate speeches against minorities.
A bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and MM Sundresh will hear the petitions. The petitions are listed as item 38 before the bench. Today, Senior Advocate Raju Ramachandran had mentioned the matter for urgent listing. Agreeing to list the matter tomorrow, CJI DY Chandrachud disclosed that the Supreme Court collegium has taken cognizance of the complaints about Gowri, which came to its notice after the recommendation was made.
